Sumo Spotlight highlights Sumo Logic employees from around the globe. This spotlight features Boris Gurzhovski, a senior software engineer based in Macedonia.
What is your role at Sumo Logic?
I joined Sumo Logic as a part of the DFLabs acquisition and our security orchestration and response solution, now Cloud SOAR. Prior to the acquisition, I was with DFLabs for seven years and spent two years as an external contractor. My primary role is working on the Cloud SOAR solution as a developer building integrations with third-party vendors and supporting clients and prospects for proof of concepts (POCs). I also manage the Sumo Logic office in Skopje, Macedonia.
What do you like most about your job?
One of the most exciting things about my job is the opportunity to work and support the cybersecurity sector, which gives me the chance and privilege to work with a team of amazingly talented people. I love that everyone at Sumo Logic is very supportive of each other, and whether you are working from home or from any of the other offices around the world, there is always someone to collaborate with me.
What do you like about Sumo Logic’s company culture?
The company culture gives me a sense of belonging and the opportunity to be myself. When I first started working for DFLabs, I felt, for the first time, that my voice was heard and I was valued as an individual. This feeling grew when we joined Sumo Logic. It is priceless to be treated as more than a tool or a means to an end.
Boris loves spending time with his family and playing board games
What parts of our mission and/or values do you connect most with?
I think being “In it with our Customers” is the one value that is always at the forefront for me. I love working with our customers with the same tenacity and desire to help them as if we are part of their company. Their appreciation for exceeding their high expectations gives me great satisfaction and makes me proud. Seeing people put their hearts and souls into our products motivates me to deliver my best.
How do you spend time outside of Sumo Logic?
I spend most of my free time with my family. We have board game nights –– most recently we played Jaws, Cascadia, Lord of Waterdeep, Ticket to Ride –– and movie nights. Almost every evening we walk around the neighborhood with our latest family member, Tara, a six-month-old Yorkie. We like to travel to new places or spend time in nature. And I really enjoy spending time with my colleagues outside of work. Although, due to the pandemic, we’re not doing so much of that lately. I really miss it.
What has been your biggest accomplishment while at Sumo Logic?
The Macedonian office is my proudest accomplishment. Although the responsibilities came as part of a legacy from DFLabs, the trust that the leadership team put in me has made me feel like it’s “my own” company. I put my heart and energy into making the Skopje office a vital part of Sumo Logic. Currently, we have about ten people working across digital marketing, engineering, and sales, all focused on the SOAR solution. We are also working hard to expand the Macedonia team over the next several months.

How have you grown professionally during your time at Sumo?
Not everyone gets to spend a part of their career at a place like Sumo Logic. I’m very grateful for this opportunity to grow my career. I get to learn so much about our other cloud-native security solutions, like security analytics and Cloud SIEM, which helps me become more proficient in assisting our customers in modernizing security operations centers (SOC).
Share one thing that your coworkers don’t know about you
I love board games. I love playing them with my family, friends and my colleagues. I look forward to the day I can bring some of my collection to a future Sumo gathering :)
