One of Australia’s Fastest-Growing Private Health Insurance Providers Leverages Sumo Logic to Gain Visibility across the Entire Application Stack to Confidently Move Workloads to AWS
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Aug. 22, 2016 – Sumo Logic, the leading cloud-native, machine data analytics service, today announced nib health funds (nib), one of Australia's leading health insurers, has selected Sumo Logic to help the company gain full-stack visibility and real-time insights as it moves digital workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
As a fast-growing company that provides affordable health and medical insurance to over one million Australian and New Zealand residents, nib wanted to be able to leverage the speed, flexibility and cost of operating in the cloud so it could speed up delivery of services in pursuit of a superior customer experience.
As such, the company made a strategic decision to move its digital applications to the cloud leveraging AWS. However, in order to confidently start moving workloads to the cloud, nib knew it needed a solution to better correlate log data so that the team could proactively monitor the health of its applications and infrastructure as it transitioned from on-premise data centers to AWS.
nib selected Sumo Logic’s cloud-native machine data analytics platform to gain better visibility into its applications to quickly determine the root cause analysis of an issue before it impacted customers. By leveraging machine data analytics platform built on AWS with native integrations into many of its solutions, nib’s IT teams are able to visualize and monitor workloads in real-time, identify issues and expediting root cause analysis across the AWS infrastructure.
“Before Sumo Logic, our logs sat on servers only accessible by our IT Operations team, and our Application Delivery teams had limited ability to monitor our applications. We simply didn’t have the operational visibility needed in order to confidently move to a DevOps model and migrate to AWS,” said Trent McClenahan, head of Digital and Emerging Business Delivery for nib. “With Sumo Logic, we’ve only hit the tip of the iceberg and now have deep visibility into every single component of our application stack. It’s significantly changed how our teams visualize and monitor workloads in real time, and has helped us greatly accelerate our transition to AWS.”
Today nib uses Sumo Logic for log analysis and aggregation, which has given the IT team the visibility to troubleshoot its website for potential issues and gain insight into key business activities, such as how quickly customers are signing up for new policies. It has also proved to be highly valuable in non-production environments so that teams can promote to production with confidence.
“Moving to the cloud can be a very daunting task for any IT organization as many believe it means sacrificing visibility or control over your infrastructure and applications,” said Stephen Cottrell, managing director of Asia Pacific for Sumo Logic. “It’s critical for rapidly growing businesses such as nib to have real-time visibility into its applications and infrastructure to get the operational insights needed to deliver the best customer experience and truly take advantage of the elasticity and flexibility that the cloud provides.”
nib is currently standardizing its digital operations on Sumo Logic to drive deeper analytics out of its dashboards, so the IT team can help make more strategic business decisions. In addition, the company plans to expand its use of Sumo Logic by leveraging alerting and incident management features to further expand its service management capabilities.
